15 Awesome Things To Do On Bora Bora
Planning to visit Bora Bora and wondering if there is anything else to do except for sipping coconut cocktails on the beach and turning occasionally from one side to the other? Dear weirdos, for whom such dream vacation doesn't seem enticing enough, take a peek into my list of awesome adventurous activities that will make you long for those simple lazy beach pleasures. 😅
15 awesome things to do on bora bora
1. SNORKEL. Get rest and snorkel again. Then? Then snorkel some more. Colors of the lagoon are out of this world! No camera, no picture or video can do it any justice. The underwater world is beyond any expectations. It bursts with life and colors. Fish of all types, sharks, stingrays, turtles are bustling and hustling in the vortex of blue, turquoise, green and emerald. It is captivating! It sweeps away all your earthly nuisances and overwhelms you by its glory.
There are numerous snorkeling tours available on Bora Bora (boat tours, jet ski tours, glass boats, helmet safaris, aquabikes etc) We opted for shark and ray feeding tour with a barbecue lunch on an uninhabited island. It was amazing!! The tour guide and boat captain played ukulele on top of everything.😃
Bora Bora Pearl Beach resort has its own coral nursery with biorock corals to preserve and protect this extremely fragile ecosystem.
You can as well snorkel from the shore in many places. The lagoon has no shortage of places to explore!
Just one more thing I'd like to mention - please be mindful of the nature, do your research ahead of time and remember how harmful tourist activities might be for the environment. When we went swimming with stingrays, fed them and petted - I was the happiest person alive. Later on, when I found out touching and feeding can't do any good to the animals, I felt really sorry for my thoughtless actions. Our short-lived happiness should't cost these beautiful curious animals their well-being. Please don't touch marine life!

2. FLY. Yes. After you've enjoyed the lagoon from below, it's time to admire it from above! Sea planes and helicopters are pricey but the views are breathtaking to say the least! We took a 4-passenger helicopter tour. See for yourself:
3. JET SKI TOUR. It's a must. I couldn't be more definite about it. The thrill of the speed topped with the unreal beauty of the lagoon are MIND BLOWING! I almost cried and I ain't exaggerating! We booked a tour with a few stops at amazing places with shallow waters and at a small island where our guide showed us how they pick and open coconuts and prepared mango-coconut snack. Fun fun fun!
4. JEEP SAFARI TOUR. You should definitely explore the island and Jeep tour is a great way to do it. Just like with everything else there are various options - we went for the one with 4 stops at different viewpoints. Our tour guide Rapa told fun stories and showed us how they dry coconuts, what plants they use for food and drinks and played ukulele.
5. Go on FISHING tours or NIGHT LOBSTER CATCHING tours. To be honest, I believe the best way to find really unique tours is talking to locals. For instance, we've learned about night lobster catching activity from a local taxi driver. Talk to the locals, don't rely solely on the internet, as online options are often way too touristy and cliche, while locals might offer something really authentic and different. Any restaurant will prepare a meal with your catch!
6. MORE water activities! Kitesurfing, Parasailing, Boating. And don't forget simple pleasures - kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding. 😜 Every resort has those for free. Well, you paid well enough for this "free" stuff. So make sure you get the value for your money. It is fun fun fun!
7. AUTHENTIC POLYNESIAN DINNER. Rapa, the guy from the Jeep safari tour, hosts dinners at his house, just like many other local families. You know, with real Polynesian food - fish prepared in palm leaves on hot stones, dishes with coconut milk, bread fruit and rum cocktails. This is the right way to experience the island and its culture! Besides, I must be frank and say that I didn't like restaurants on Bora Bora too much. The food was very blah, the variety was scarce. I would definitely advise going for local food - buy fruits at local markets, try street food, traditional pastries.
8. HIKING. Gorgeous, bursting with vegetation Bora Bora with remnants of an extinct volcano rising to Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu has to be hiked! Exclamation point. Find more info about hiking trails and guides here.
9. DOLPHIN AND WHALE WATCHING. Unfortunately, we couldn't make it to the tour but we've heard highly laudative stories of other honeymooners returning from the tour. They saw whales in very close proximity. For me it says it all.
10. Your RESORT (hotel, studio, villa, bungalow) hides all sorts of activities. Explore the options and participate! They are usually fun: coconut show, bellynesian dance, flower crown making, basket weaving. Don't forget to indulge in things likes spas, massages and baths. You can splurge in a traditional Polynesian spa or save and make a flower bath yourself! Just like I did 😜
11. TAHITIAN PEARLS. If you absolutely can't leave the island without a purchase - buy Tahitian black pearls. They are gorgeous and deserve to be called Tahitian pride. Consider visiting Black Pearl Farm.
12. WATCH THE STARS. You don't consider this to be an adventurous activity? You are so wrong! I have never, never ever seen a night sky like that. Only on Bora Bora I grasped the real meaning of "myriads of stars". Unfortunately I have yet to learn night photography technique (and to get an equipment for that), so cannot demonstrate you all the glory of the night sky on Bora Bora. Please take my word for it. 😃
13. SUNSETS AND SUNRISES. Watching something IS an activity. Period. 😂 Especially when it is on an island like Bora Bora. Especially if you have a coconut in one hand and a mango in the other.
14. DO A PHOTOSHOOT. As always, you can splurge (hiring a photographer) or save (harassing your husband and other neighbors). I, as usual, saved. 😎
15. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE BEACH!! Really, it is NOT your regular Florida beach experience. It is BORA BORA beach experience for crying out loud! 😍
16. The last but not least - SMILE, BE HAPPY, LOVE EACH OTHER, IMBIBE EVERY SECOND OF IT! I mean it - put it in your itinerary and cross it out every day before going to bed. I smiled today, I was happy, I felt loved and showed love. CHECK!
