Bonjour, sava, merci, arevuar…or France I love you! // Day 5 – Strasbourg
I am in the Day 5 of the Germany-France road trip and this
post will be an attempt to lure you to fall in love with the undeniable charm
of Strasbourg.
The city is well known for its sandstone Gothic Cathedral, medieval
timber-framed buildings and cobblestone roads. Located right at the border with
Germany, it is immersed into the Franco-German culture which is echoed so well
in the city’s architecture. As you walk through the city you will catch both French
and German bits of conversations.
Sadly, we could spend only half a day in Strasbourg, so
instead of trying to grab a peak at every landmark, we decided to enjoy it at a
slow pace and, of course, chose to explore Le Petite France, its historic neighborhood.
I say we made the right choice!
Le Petite France is just so charming, that it makes you go
awww every time you make a turn. And it is oh so welcoming and lively… and endearing…and
adorable…aaaand I can use maybe all the “cute” adjectives in my vocabulary but
I guess you got the point :)
So I totally fell in love and was chirping like a birdie and
literally making dancing pas unable to control myself. In La Petite France I
found everything and even more I was expecting from Montmartre which we failed
to visit. I’d say La Petite France is your second best option if you are
looking for this particular French charm you’ve been curious about.
When in Strasbourg, do:
- Walk as much as you can without any route in mind - just wander the cobblestone streets and explore neighborhoods.
- Take pictures. Of absolutely anything. It is all unspeakably cute.
- Eat, drink, snack – there are hundreds of tiny cafes, fine restaurants and you name it places with chairs and tables right on the streets for you to grab a bite of any kind.
- Buy a piece of inexpensive street art and one of zillions of white storks souvenirs (why storks read here)
- Be happy and smiley – you are in France, baby! :)
We stayed at Comfort Hotel Strasbourg - 5 min from the city center. Very nice hotel for the price (we paid $50 + $9 breakfast), great breakfast buffet!

Thanks for reading!

DeleteSo lovely! I've heard of Strasbourg before of course, but never really knew what there was to do there. That looks like such a beautiful little neighborhood!

It is very "french" and romantic! Great place for quiet vacation - just taking long walks, enjoying the scenery, taking breaks at cafes and restaurants... I would definitely visit that city again :)
DeleteNew to the blog and glad I came across it today! I LOVE Strasbourg, I cannot tell you what that little city means to me? have you found the cute carousal in Petite France? I actually wrote an article recently where i mentioned sometimes little cities are far better then the big city! I had the best sandwich of my life there! Hope you're having fun!
ReplyDeleteHi and welcome! :) I loved Strasbourg as well - it is sooo MY city, I mean the kind of city I feel at home instantly!
DeleteI actually did not see the carousal. Here's an idea - write a post about Strasbourg and mention this carousal there! :)))
Ahh it looks so beautiful! reminds me of a combination of Montmartre (which is amazing, I live two metro stops away and am in love), Germany, and the Netherlands! So beautiful and I really really really hope I get the chance to visit soon :D
